Fichte is the german word for spruce, a tree, but not that kind of tree where you would find apples (Apfel) on.

The names of the chips are codenames associated to custom chip versions, I'll guess. It's like the naming on Amiga computers (Denise, Gary, Buster, Gayle, Lisa, etc.)…
