  1. excellent review! I am considering this camera for plane spotting, however, I need to shoot vertically (reel mode) not sure if that can be achieve with this camera?
    have you shoot vertically?

  2. Great video! I use this camera to record horse racing but my videos always look fuzzy and soft. The horses always lack detail. In your video, you recorded motor cross…… any sides what setting you used? I always record in 1080p 60p and adjust my shutter speed 500-1500 depending on how bright it is outside. Everything else is in automatic. Do you have any suggestions?

  3. Hold on a sec… motion blur isn't due to FPS… it's due to shutter speed. If you shoot with 1/1000s shutter speed at 25fps – there'll be no motion blur. The video won't be silky-smooth like 60fps, but motion blur? None.

  4. most of us (like me) just get the thing working and some of us go 100% into the thing and take full advantage of all features. Well done for such an entertaining video with real technical content, you are such a great role model to mankind……God bless and keep on shooting.

  5. Many thanks for sharing Dan. I saw a plate you attached at the bottom of the Sony FDR-AX53 but no description on it on the accessories list. Can you share how to get that plate (the name and type)?

  6. I do not recommend buying this camera. I bought it in year 2018 and after 2022 the touch screen broke and isn't responding. Now it's 2023 and the worst thing happened. A file corrupted on a memory card and every single time I turn on the camera it gives me the file recovery screen and asks if I want to choose recover or cancel. Well it's not possible to choose anything or avoid it. Removing battery or switching to another memory card won't do anything. There is no manual buttons or a factory reset button. It's also extremely expensive to send my camera for repairing so I will buy a replacement parts from ebay and attempt to switch the screen on myself.

  7. Great video & Thanks for sharing….I own a Sony AX53 myself and shoot Dragraces in 1080p@60fps….I want to shoot Dragraces in 4k@60fps but the AX53 can only do 30fps in 4k….So my question is “ How on earth did you manage to get your AX53 to shoot those action shots so smoothly & look more like 60fps than 30fps ? I really wanna shoot the NHRA FINALS in Pomona in 4k this November 2023 but I want it to look like 60fps as you accomplished in your fast shots of the racecar & motorcycle jumps. Thank you for your expertise 🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏

  8. Great info,, question: besides the viewfinder and display are there any other cons on the ax43 vs the ax53 you know of? Also what’s your opinion on the ax700 image stabilization, and 4K30p vs the 60p of the panhcx2000,, Thank you!

  9. I have a Sony Ax-33 and was very happy with it, but with the hype of moving into a mirrorless camera I bought a Sony ZV E-10, but the problem is with zooming. I have a Tamron 18-300 mm lens, which is very good but can't have a smooth cinematic zoom in and out, like you can get on the handycam. Even after correcting the shake with the catalyst browse, the jerk of zooming in and out is visible. To use a gimbal for this I will have to buy a high capacity one and even that will not solve the problem, because I will have to balance for every zoom position, unless the lens is with internal zoom. I overcame all this by mounting AX-33 and ZV E-10 on a rig. ZV E-10 was on a small gimbal with Sigma 16mm F1.4 and the AX-33 parallel to it on a separate fixture on the same rig. The bottom of the rig was supported in a pocket which in turn was hung from my neck and shoulders and the weight could be comfortably carried by a small build person like me in my seventies . I have a surround microphone with an additional voice input which is delivered from my wireless microphone. The output from the surround microphone is connected to both the cameras through a splitter. The ZV E-10 provides sharp and high quality images with bokeh by using your steps to move in and out. The distant images images are cinematically zoomed in and out on AX-33. I normally leave both the cameras on but one can save the battery and memory on SD card by switching of the unnecessary camera. The footages can be easily synched using the common audio on any editing software. The footages could be chopped and joined to ones liking. I found the results were really excellent.

  10. One big downside of this wonderful camcorder is that, like many camcorders, they are hardcoded PAL or NTSC. For me, as a European, our Ax53 or Ax43 are only recording 25p or 50p – no 30p, 24p or 60p… Unfortunately

  11. Excellent video! Thank you for sharing all of your tips and information. I have all of your camcorder videos saved and continually utilize them as valuable references. If they were books, they would be worn out! I'm hoping you will publish additional photography/videography videos in the future. It appears you are using a holster for your Sony AX53. Could you provide the manufacturer and model of it? Thanks!

  12. I have a question… I have the sony shotgun mic like the video, do I still have to put the furry wind mic protector on the actual camera too or once I put the shotgun mic, the mic from the camera won't work?

  13. Thanks for sharing these great ideas! I've been a home movie geek since the '70s and, like you, prefer looking through an eyepiece for many shots. I'm buying the ax53 just to regain this feature 🎥

Using the eyepiece helps frame shots in the way viewers expect to enjoy content. It just makes the video more watchable. This conventional framing gets lost with the too-wide, spray-and-pray tendency of LCD-screen framing (and limited, jerky zoom) of SLR cameras.

  14. Hi Dan! Would you use the ax53 to do videos such as this one (with background illuminated with light and yourself in big, kind of like a talking head)?

What are you using at the moment to do those shots?

My camera is not the best for this and looking to invest in a new one!

    Thank you for your help!

  15. Great video, I will say – I skipped over it a few times because of the thumbnail being cheese, but the actual tricked out camera/info is great. Thanks.
