Get a smart one that you can shut off when you are out of the house on vacation.
Why is it installed only on the water heater? I’d place it on the main line into the house. Sure add several sensors so any one would trigger the shut off.

Free info……when going on vacation, shut off the water at the main. To reduce pressure, flush the toilet. Water heater, if gas, turn to pilot setting, if electric, shut-off power to water heater! Garage door opener (with no battery backup only) shut-off power to opener.

I have a Kinetico shutoff system with 8 sensors, all sinks, toilets, washer and water heater are monitored. It works great, this protection is something everyone should look into. Great video and information.
Had one on my washer in a 2nd floor condo. Sensor was right under the hoses. Unfortunately the floor was not level and when my washer failed I only knew due to my downstairs neighbors. Make sure you take sensor location into account.

They have many diffrent flood stop devices. The washing machine flood stop works .
Usually, the tank starts slow leak. If the drain pan installed properly should be no problem
