I think it is going to be VERY difficult– if not impossible — for the U. S. to catch up with China in transportation and infrastructure.
Besides the fact the U.S. invested a very tiny fraction of its GDP in transportation and infrastructure, there are also a number of obstacles inherent to the country's political system that make building things difficult in the U.S.
๐ More than half of the infrastructure in the U. S. is funded by state and local governments that often have different or even conflicting agendas, whereas infrastructure projects in China are funded at the national level.
๐ There had been a lack of political will to invest in infrastructure until during the COVID-19 pandemic when the issue of America's aging infrastructure captured the politicians' attention and Congress passed the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in November, 2021. The bill authorizes $1.2 trillion USD in transportation and infrastructure spending — the largest of its kind in decades.
๐ Even if there had been political will to increase investment in transportation and infrastructure, politicians often disagreed on how and how much to spend.
๐ Bureaucracy and permit requirements also often make it extremely difficult to start new infrastructure projects.
๐ There had also been a reported shortage of engineers in the government.
China does not have any of the problems listed above! There is clearly political will to invest in transportation and infrastructure. Due to China's one-party political system, there is no partisan political wrangling. Transportation and infrastructure projects are funded at the national level. The Chinese government does not lack engineers. All of these factors combined to give China an edge in transportation and infrastructure.

More foreigners should visit China so that lies and disinformation spread by US and West mainstream media will be dispelled.
US and West spread lies and disinformation just want to demonize China in order to contain China progress. Remember how US lied about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction and then invaded Iraq illegally which caused millions of life lost or displaced. US and West are despicable and lost their dignity in front of the world to see.
Western push for democracy in china (while admirable) is naive and will be disastrous for China. There is no way democracy will work for a country with 1.4 billion population.

That's an easy question. CHINA invested in infrastructure etc and the USA invested in wars and military bases around the world
Answer 2: USA spends more than half the Tax Payers money ($800 Billion) every year on War. China spends its Tax Payers money on Tax Payers.
Answer: Technocratic Government of China vs Corporate Government of USA. Technocrats problem solve, design, and construct solutions. Corporates don't move until they get all Corporate affect, approvals.
The answer to the question is quite simple. It all has to do with the make-up of the Government.
USA is a Corporatist Country. As such, they have a Government filled with Corporate Lawyers.
China is a Technocratic Country. As such, they have a Government filled with Technocrats (e.g. Engineers, Scientist, Technicians, Mathematics, etc. President Xi is NOT a Corporate Lawyer but a Chemical Engineer).
So when you have a Government in the 21st Technological Age, which Government do you think is going to do best for ALL their citizens?
When there is a Civic problem in USA (such as bridge collapse, new roads need to be built, High Speed Rail networks need to be establish, affordable health care for all, etc) a Government full of Corporate Lawyers are going to run to all the affected Corporations to see if it does any damage to their profits. If so, then they write laws (USA Government all themselves 'law makers') to protect, or compensate the Corporations with Tax Payers money, even though they don't pay taxes, and they're Private Corporations.
However, a Government full of Technocrats, facing the same problem, can investigate the problem, come up with solutions, design the constructions and have the problem built/solved. This is why China, during the Covid 19 Pandemic was able to build an additional 1,000 bed modern, AI hospital in 10 days.
This is why sanctions and restrictions on China doesn't work. Every time USA tries to block and stop China, their Technocratic Government is able to construct new pathways in months (e.g. USA kicks out China from the ISS, so China, in less than 10 years, built their own, more advanced Space Station).
USA needs to GROW UP and stop provoking China (they're actually making China fend for themselves, making them stronger) and instead, USA needs to WORK with China. If USA worked with China, then every single Human Being on our beautiful Planet Earth, would prosper.

Those who have not been to Chinaโs metropolitans have absolutely no idea about China. Now China is the only futuristic country and it is developing rapidly to become the first class mega super modern country in the world. The superiority and prosperity of Chinaโs socialist system with Chinese characteristics far surpassed the capitalist system of the USA.
I believe that it is in the Chinese DNA to be effective and efficient and having the leadership to satisfy these attributes innate in the people, has seen the marvellous rejuvenation of China.

Because it steady government 5 year plan. This means they can focus on a few items for five but in the west, every politician has a vision for development but in the confusion of all that politics, everything is lost.
China's time scale is different to the western democracy. Take the "Grand Canal" as an example, it took generations to complete. I have a snippet of information from Google…

I think the Chinese political system is inherent to the Chinese culture, ie. a Top-down government which the west calls it "dictatorship". But it works. It works because that is the Chinese cultural DNA. Chinese people don't argue for argument's sake, unlike the west which actually encourages contrarian views just for the hack of it. That is why there are so many lawyers in the US, and why so many lawyers are running the US and the west in general.
Like the video said, the west's vision only lasts as long as the electoral cycle which is mostly 4 years. In the US, when there is a looming election, everyone goes gaga about it. Just look at 2024, Joe Biden is the centre of attention of the media for the wrong reasons. Thy want him gone, but he super-glued his hands on the furniture in the White House, he won't leave without a fight. That took away a lot of oxygen for the country. The alternative is not much better. He argues about the VP is either an Indian, or an African !
The political leaders are also hopeless. Recently, a Republican senator decided to tell the Congress how much indebted the US is. He talked to an empty chamber ! They senators don't want to know how dire the US's finance really is !
They fake things but let's grant them that is "true"?

China doesn't waste money on stupid wars everywhere. China has plenty of funds for development and improvements in infrastructures and people's lives. China places importance on people's lives.

The Chinese people built the Great Wall. They have always been good at building infrastructure.

In western style of democracy, a good talker/showman with lots of money can be the leader of the government, not the one that already did some very excellent jobs in a lower level State.๐
One most important factor you forgot ….
The seeds that spurred China to grow what it is today.
At the time China opened up investments , eg. in Shenghzen, ONLY Chinese based companies in HK, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan rushed in to invest in China as they trust China . NO Western companies even dared to consider seeing China was so poor and communists just like the view West now has on North Korea.
The companies in the Free trade Zones modeled like Singapore , exploded and flooded the world with very cheap and effective goods making American and Western companies starting to collapse.
China opened up for these companies in exchage for knowhow and investments.
It was a mutually beneficial win win . Western companies survived e.g. GM and Ford Motors on life support grew fast with Chinese markets.
If it had not been the generosity of the Chinese govt then , today you ONLY see Chinese companies still around.
Intel and others high tech came much later ….
So Americans and West should be grateful to China .

In Western Democracies there is ruling party and the opposition. From its basic structure, the oppositionโs role is to tear down all governments projects in Parliament. How are these countries going to move forward. I like to know the answers.
China spends money on infrastructure building while America spends money on making weapons and killing innocents abroad while its homeless problems gets worse day by day. Chinese chuldren get proper educations to build their country while Anerican children struggle with identity problem of which sexes they are.

To put things in a nutshell: China has the best governance due to its unique political system. Also Chinese people are smartest and most hard-working, working for the common good.
Because Chinese government and its people have a common goal (for the greater of the country), and they work hard!

Because China cares more about the progress and prosperity of its country and its people. They donโt squander hundreds of billions of their taxpayersโ money on wars and killing people like the United snakes. Thatโs why !!!
Yes, economic liberalization, won't take away any of that, but there are lots of 3rd world nations with higher GDP than China in the 80s, that still lives under IMF debts, Western military and economic Colonial dominance, and dirt poor and undeveloped today. So let's not forget strategic planning, and most importantly, not attacking other nations and wasting moneys on the military, or the government only catering to the rich and the powerful.
When Xi travels he uses Air China. It's very humbling compared to the fleet of private jets used by western officials.
Better infra than the West? simple! they spend their money building not destroying, example, how many trillion spent destroying Afghanistan, money well spent building houses for the homeless, etc. logical?
