You need to test it to see if everything is running as it should. Most of the time it isn't so easy as you show it here.
I always watch your videos anytime I'm home from work just to learn more. I decided to subscribe for the discord membership plan. And for a week or two that I have joined. I have learned so much more. Someone on the discord channel just helped me fixed my nvidia 3060 laptop that I have given up on for a long time now.

You have to take the back plate out before using the heat gun, it has heat pads that suck the heat to the aluminium backplate

Sometimes need to check mosfet output with scope, maybe chip fake or not good solder… becouse we've seen it works also without it

but what if gpu isnt displaying and pc booting normally? i have that issue with a gtx 1070. but when it does display it will work flawlessly. any ideas Sorin?

Did the same thing this week with a 3060. It had gotten so hot there were burn Mark's and factory flux everywhere. Found shorted mosfet, replaced and I can't believe it actually works. One very fortunate kid.

its so sad that a high end expensive gpu doesnt have fuses on the 12v rails, you can install fuses by lifting the coils and soldering a fuse between the coil's leg and the pad, thats how you make a better than factory repair.

It's a good idea to use a heat shield for the capacitors as they don't like hot air. An L section strip from a soda can will do.

My PC with MSI GTX 970 turned of while playing with smoke coming out from case. I found out that one of the mosfets was basically welded to the board. I took the mosfet out of the board and replaced with new one. With not much hope i put it back if it will work and it was. That GPU still works in younger brothers PC. Amazing what GPUs can handle.

Not sure but I believe this chip was partially working and able to measure the current using the shunt resistor and cut the power on the GPU and probably it was switching the low side first for testing or something of the kind , because whatever got shorted it must be the high side mosfet I mean it must be having short protection mechanism otherwise the survival of the GPU is inexplicable…
DRMos, they can short to ground, so the 12 volt going to ground, not GPU.
You should really get a board pre-heater too. Well done thou.
Actually GPU can be burned. To be sure you need install Windows, driver and do few stress tests (furmark for example). GPU can hang system when you try to install the driver. Without tests you can't be sure it's working or not.

GPU is not dead because PSU power detect issue and disable. If you inject above 1v, killed GPU.
