  1. Your video illustrates a design flaw in the R5 and in my R7. When I put the camera into a bag the rubber eye cup was knocked off and it broke those two tiny plastic threaded loops that hold the screws that hold it on. Once either or both of those two fragile and tiny loops with holes for the screws are broken you cannot repair it because the Loops are connected to the body of the camera and not to a part that can be replaced. I had to use a couple of drops of super glue to hold on the new eye Cup.
They could easily have designed a connection for that eyepiece that was not just two tiny fragile little threaded loops that cannot be easily replaced. It's definitely a design flaw

  2. I don't know why they don't make this cup the way they made the DSLR cups. They just slid off and on… no screws required. Btw, Simon, there are 3rd party extended eye covers for the R series that move out from the body and are very nice to use.

  3. I just was thinking about replacing my eye cup. Looked up replacements on Amazon. 2 days ago and yesterday. (based on when this video was released) And was thinking I need to look up how to it.

Then this video! I know phones are spying on what we do. But now you too! Wtf Simon!?! Lol.

  4. I had some dust in my 24–70 RF and I called Canon to ask them for the seal at the front and to send me a Parts breakdown. And they did. I took the lens element off and I blew the dust out and put it back together and it's been working great since.

  5. Hi Simon, Thanks .. this is very good to be aware off once we'd need it 👍
I could have just been a tad more educational when you not only advised to use an anti-static mat, because actually used it a few seconds later in the video 😛

  6. I am amazed how cheap parts are from Canon Canada. I lost my shoe cover on my R6mkii. It was $14.95 +GST with shipping to Calgary and came in a 6x6x6" box via Canada Post. I just shipped a similar box from Calgary to Edmonton and it was a touch over $20.

  7. Thanks for the info. I bought on Amazon for $17.00, R6, R5 R5C Eyecup Eyepiece. Soft Silicon Extended Camera Eye Cup Viewfinder Special Designed for Canon EOS R6 Mark II R6 R5 R5C R5 C Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera. I loved… It's very good for video…

  8. CR-V is the name of the alloy, chrome-vanadium, not a brand or type of fastener 🙂
Also, for Canon gear some screws are not philips, but JIS. You really notice that when a PH000 driver strips the heads on the screws. Don’t be like me 🙂

  9. works the same way for the R7 too. Maybe others. I got one that is a "bigger" eyecup for the R7 from Amazon that really works well with glasses. As you said, it took about 10 minutes to swap out. Great video Simon, thanks for sharing.
