I still want to see a Pico with Horizon OS on it XD
now they need to open up the Oculus PC app to other headsets and im not talking about any headset using harizon os, im talking about anyone who wants to make a PC VR headset using oculus store (and also the existing headsets too make a steam vr plugin to allows steam vr headsets to play games from the oculus store revive is great but I want something more official its wishful thinking). It wouldn't hurt facebook to open up the PC app to other headsets revive already kinda does just that but doing that and bringing quest exclusives to the oculus PC app could be more beneficial. What stops me from getting games on my quest 3 is my PC games look and runs better and for quest exclusives I tend to not buy them because I know I would never play them unless I go to a friends or family's house to me the Quest 3 is more a on to go headset and my Index is my main headset.
CUKTECK HAHAHA I AM A REAL PERSON
🐀
Would be nice to see one of the other headsets differentiate with dedicated cable connection via display port with the same lenses as quest 3 and higher resolution to replace the reverb G2. Wireless is great but for some applications but for sim games i want to sit and plug in and not worry about battery life
More choice is always welcome and all being on the same platform is great from a software library and cross play perspective!
Love ASUS RoG gear. I'm sold.
Very excited to see other manufacturers headsets with the convenience of Quest.
Doesn't matter who makes the hardware but will meta allow partners to use their patented optics, even I have to admit, the optics of the Quest 3 is 2nd to none, they are incredible, so no matter how good a HMD might be, if the optics aren't good, the whole HMD isn't good.
As for Asus and Lenovo making "Quest Like" HMDs, please oh please…. a Display Port option for us PCVR users?
Either way, HMDs from Asus, Lenovo, etc, will not be as cheap as a REAL Quest HMD, they can't afford to sell them at a loss and why would they want to?
Brilliant! The Meta OS now becomes like Windows, licensed across many devices. It’s a very smart move by Meta and great for consumers- I would be quite interested in an ASUS ROG VR headset!
Cloud gaming = renting your games. Don’t own them
Videos are nice, but no need to force the happy smile every time you speak. Looks unnatural
This is great news! Having options with hardware is always great
Meta is only partnering with 3rd party vendors with their Meta Horizon OS because Zuckerberg wants to own the Metaverse
Those same partners will have to compete with Meta headsets that are sold at a subsidized price
With Apple now in the spatial computing arena.
Meta felt the need to do this now
I think this is a great move on their part in a business sense. It will be interesting now to see how many jump into the pool with them. As long as it makes VR stronger, I'll be happy.
I would like to see you try the first smell o vision game scent i was told there making fall out 4 an sky rim an other smell kits in the future
Since I like your videos Can you get the new smell o vision Game Scent I like to no your thoughts about that I was told there making smell kits for Fall Out 4 Sky Rim in the near future
Meta Quest OS is a crap even after so many years. No apps, poor performance, lack of, well, everything
Is there going to be a store share? LOL Of course the whole reason they are doing this IS to share the store and get there software OS and applications out to many more users. That's why they are renaming there Quest App as well to Meta Horizons App.
So virtually the Pico Store is dead in the near future I guess?
I don't know about this move. I guess it depends on how much of secret sauce is in the Quest hardware? I think a lot of it is in the software, but probably the main ingredients for the successful hardware is price, comfort, decent processor. If there is varying hardware specs out there, is the Meta Horizon OS tuned to optimise the software things to make use of the hardware? Things like hand tracking, AR etc. If the 3rd parties put out bad uncomfortable and under powered hardware, will it ruin the Meta reputation? Risks on both sides I guess.
I guess understandable that Meta need to do something to encourage sales of their platform. Quest 3 I doubt is moving enough hardware to cover the huge investment so far, and probably making a loss on hardware. Maybe it is a smart move to get the hardware guys in on the game, and try and reclaim the cost of the software.
XBox so needs to just stream to the headset wirelessly. Basically allow a quest and a wifi dongle to use the xbox with some games as vr. The technology to stream from a pc to your quest is already there and working. This isn't a big technical undertaking and microsoft would jump right into the vr market to compete with sony. This xbox themed quest would work well, if everything else I just said worked, but alone is just a poor gimick.
I just hope this means all the games locked behind the quest will now one day be available for PCVR since the OS will be made available.
Maybe emulation?
I just wanna play new quest exclusive on my oculus rift lol
very cool . i might want a LG hirez headset as a monitor replacement to watch movies and do light web stuff . then a xbox headset for gaming 😎
AND going to blow apple away Tyriel
So any chance any of this is going to give us OLED displays?
Pico 4s needs to use the Horizon OS immediately and then the headset would be a major success and Knight be able to be released in the USA
I think this is a big chance for VR.
By the WMR Headset nobody gave thumbs up for MS and their shitty software, but there where a few really good HMDs outside who was etter then the rest at release like the Samsung o´or HP with their bouth Reverbs.
Now we have the chance to see better resoultion and more FoV with a very solid OS.
I would love to see a Pimax HMD with the horizon OS.. even with a cable.
So, the Nescafé route. This is actually a brilliant move. Has Zuckerberg gotten a brain upgrade over the past year?
Data mining commence!
Not liking the bloated Meta OS is the primary reason I've switched to and stuck with Pico. Now every standalone headset is going to be running Meta OS? Sounds like a huge win for Meta and a loss for the consumers. Maybe eventually we'll get to where we are with phones and have custom ROM's available to streamline what used to be a great OS.
Anyway, none of this matters if we don't get more games.
This confuses me because the actual OS is Android. This is just Metas version of it. 🤔
Well this may be a bit of a genius move. If enough come on board on their headsets, then Meta can become the Steam of VR.
Pico should partner with Huawei, as they have the Harmony OS. And i think Huawei is releasing their own VR/AR headset for the Harmony OS. As HarmonyOS is cross device OS, so it basically similar to Apples OS. Expect its one unified OS, while Apple stil lhave at least two different OS:es.
it's rebooting the many issues that Android had, where manufacturers felt like they needed to "tweak" the software/OS to add their own branding and what customers were left with were shitty half-baked ideas that weren't well supported, were buggy and in the end most people just wanted gone. I understand why Meta is doing this, the manufacturing process is easily the most expensive part. I just think in the end though we'll still end up with 1-2 manufacturers and the ones with the least bloat and least buggy implementation of the OS->hardware connection will be the most dominant.
I think Asus aims more for display replacement, that its about streaming content to the headset from your PC. Xbox probably also is not going to be making any VR games, but stream 2D games from the Xbox to the headset.
Neat until you realize 'even' Pimax removed XR chipsets and standalone from all their new headsets even the more high end Crystal SUPER… so its probably also gone for the "12K" QLED, so at the VERY least 'all those' Pimax HMDs and Portal (+View) may lose out on any possible benefits for Meta Horizon OS, plus even more problematic is whether 'Meta' exclusive games are still exclusive or 'kinda' works VS fully 'it just works' games.
I blame the Pimax Simmers edition for Crystal Light not having standalone BUT still having a "high" price EVEN though Simmer edition doesn't include controllers yet Crystal Light does for some reason. In relation to that SweViver during MRTV VR's Sebastion interview after Pimax Frontier 2024, mentioned that the Crystal Light will 'eventually' be sold without 'unneeded' controllers like Simmer edition a month or few months after its release.
Who cares that "Apple arrived later" (especially considered superior software)?— you don't need to R&D in public you know …
"Apple is kinda ahead"… understatement of the year. I came from psvr2 to quest 3 for its AR capabilities (as for gaming it just has too little power for me — everything looks like 2004 game) and I'm quite surprised by how bad the software is considered all the years they had to work on it.
From the get go, even stuff like app installation was buggy and don't get me started on hand interactions and the viewport warping (which is not present even in psvr2) in passthrough. I'm very happy with the optics and ergonomics tho.
Also why can't I unpin stuff rom the dock (don't get me started on re-shuffling icon positions there) or uninstall apps I don't want. Zuck wanted to undercut Apple and bring AR to the public before them, but failed quite hard considered the software quality miles long gap between them. Making quest into windows OS of AR world is the only play he can make now.
I would've loved to have bought that black Xbox branded quest 3 instead of the white one
It looks kind of pointless to be honest. WMR all over again. If Meta had anything worth playing on their store then yeah ok. But any headset connected to SteamVR would suffice and be a better option.
This could be super cool, but definitely requires SO many big companies playing nice together… one key company deciding to opt out or not do licensing and you could lose access to features quickly. Like Roku fighting with any streaming service you immediately lose a service from your device which has happened in the past. Super annoying. But it makes sense for all of them to combine since we know Apple will always be a closed system, this can be the open platform for VR. As much as people love to hate on Zuck, what he’s done with the quest and moving VR forward has been great for consumers IMO. Is it perfect? No. But side loading, headset pricing, and so many other things has been great.
Would be a nice news if Meta's OS was not that bad!
I remember buying a Lenovo Windows MR headset. I’ve never returned anything as fast in my life.
Azuuz
It might say something about the development team of Meta, once Oculus, a talented team to piggy-back their ideas on.
