A local subscriber Kyle came across this Fairbanks Ward generator when cleaning out a friends garage. I have never heard of this …

Good point. It would turn 87 octane to 83 and 93 octane to 91, according to Google.
folks coments say wow brilliant really great amazed. but id just say…… kawasaki.
Any chance of lowering the governor spring tension to lower the voltage and increasing the sensitivity to minimize the voltage drop?
A Germania YouTuber called The Post Apocaliptic Inventor, TPAI, allway use citric acid to remove the rust
Great to see it running again.
Love your videos I have a repair shop in Columbus ohio I have you on in the background. I was wondering what tool is that your using to suck out the oil? Tipping mowers is gettin old lol thank you
Great to see a Kawasaki small engine powering the generator so well. Useable antiques are the best.
I really enjoy the thoroughness you put into every project. Happy New Year.
Acetone will eat up varnish or lacquer thinner.can be used for the same thing. 😊. You can get replacement pickup tubes from Briggs.
It looks a lot like a 1990 era Briggs “L”engine.
Let the gastank soak in fresh gas for a week. It will dissolve any gum/varnish.
James, I have been working on small engines since the early 1980's.
Try using Berryman's B12 Chemtool and .17 caliber steel BB's to clean fuel tanks. It is VERY effective.
Good on you and happy new year. Ken-
Forget the gasoline, convert it to propane really easy job and it has lots of room for the components. Also propane stores for years without degrading.
Incredible…Only because of expertise & diligent work bud
Thank you
Wow, amazing restoration!
They don't build stuff like they used to. Nice restore.
Wow I am amazed that the tank cleaned up that well. Great job!
You can wrap a lead weight around the end of the emulsion tube to keep it on the bottom of the tank.
Happy New Year!
Well done. Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing
52:15 – 52:49 This channel also provides beginner classes for future bar tenders
If you are looking for non ethanol try looking for ports or marinas. I live close to a variety of rivers and the Pacific and non ethanol while not plentiful is able to be found closer you get to water
Another fine exhibit in the James Condon Genny Museum!
My thanks to you, to the donor and Dave for the ethanol-free gas. Hurrah!
I have one almost exactly like that. I had to Tig weld a repair on the carb on my channel. I personally would have just used a lower powered pressure washer and washed it clean
Held firmly in a vise, an impact screwdriver can be more persuasive than a nut driver for those stubborn bolts
In 10 years, you'll be using a little robot to do the fiddly assembly steps.
Awesome rework.
When you get these ancient generator sets and bring them back from a near death experience, what do you do with them?
And this would go all the way through the Y2K era generators.
They’re old. They’re running. Can they be relied on?
Is there a resale market?
I mean, I got a good running 1996 8500w generator for $400. Just needed an oil change and fuel flush.
Can I sell that, in good conscience, and not think it’ll leave somebody high and dry?
For you guys that do a lot of work on small engines I always wondered if a bigger ultrasonic cleaner and a big solvent sink wouldn't do the trick for stuff like this.
they don't make them like they use to
Between you working on small engines, and Cutting Edge Engineering Australia machining and fixing large parts, i really feel like i have it made when it comes to watching quality content on YouTube. Keep up the great work!
Varnish is an organic material and therefore an alkyd cleanser is what is needed. Simple green, Por15 Cleaner degreaser, Castrol super clean, etc is the way to go. No nuts needed.
Did Kawasaki rebrand B&S engines?
James, where do you find a "lift table" like the one you use in your videos.
I love the way you clean everything while you’re working on them. So many problems can be hidden under dirty and grime.
Well I certainly qualified as a expert varnish remover
At 10:00 to 10:27 is proof that either alone will not fire any engine! Their has to be some gas involved! I have been trying to tell people that for years but not all people get it.
Great work, James!
Just one question, how come fuel makes varnish and oils don't? Still petroleum products both, am I right?
Another great project Jim! It's great to see another vintage machine put out clean power. Just a note on the carb, maybe you could leave the throttle disconnected from the throttle body (since it is removeable) when installing the governor linkage. Install the carb to the intake sans the throttle lever first; thread the linkage on to the throttle lever and then replace the lever in to the throttle body. Maybe this could work and save you some effort?
DUDE. I love watching your OCD when it just jumps into overdrive. Varnish Be Gone or DEATH! ALWAYS original parts if you can, that should always be the case. Yes, it's time, but something that was made when I was out of high school for 2 years and I am 60, should be saved.
