“Spawn Wave”
Today we’re looking back at some of the early days of the Xbox 360 Red Ring when people were scrambling to try to fix their console and rumors were flying around the internet. These are all mods I would come across in different repairs that I experienced over the course of several years.

My first 360 was a refurbed unit that was guaranteed for 90 days. Not long afterward it RRoD'd on me. I had everything going on it at the end… Pennies, X-clamp fix, fan mod, additional 80mm fan that I cut into the case for, towel trick, oven trick. RIP Falcon 360
I towelled the hell out of my dead 360
I remember tried putting mine in the freezer to fix. That was the rumor I heard about fixing it. I can’t even remember if it fixed it, I’m pretty sure it didn’t work lol.
Does anyone know the documentary he keeps mentioning?
My friend ended up giving me one of his red ringed, he had 2, 3rd was finally working. Getting it repaired and customized was cheaper than buying one
I did the penny trick and bought a x clamp modded console from a pawn shop, and I even had one where I did my own x clamp mod from a kit I got all in all they all ended up dead regardless of what mod I did
These videos are so fun, love seeing them
I got a single red light error – red dot of death – which wasn't covered by the Microsoft repair warranty at the time, so I ended up having to wrap my 360 in towels to force a red ring of death error – it eventually did and I got a replacement console for free.
I tried the towel one.
Had a friend tell me “if you can fix it, it’s yours”
I didn’t get n Xbox 360 until one of the elite revisions.
Owned my original arcade 360 from new for 8 years and it was used almost daily for the whole time, never had any issues with mine while friends went through at least one if not two or three units.
Fun fact no matter what if you had to send your xbox 360 to gamestop back then they would apply the 12v fan mod and the bolt mod even if you didnt have the red ring
We tried the coin trick but we glue them together and only two and it works really well on one console and the towel works too
My first Xbox was the Xbox Xbox one X.
Seen a guy use a home depot heat gun but didnt fix the heat sink problem. Better to leave it open and use a box fan blow on it before using xbox .
I did the towel trick and it worked, and I still have that 360 to this day. It never got the red ring again. Played on it all the time too.
I’ve done the towel plenty of times lol
I did the cue-tips in the fan holes. It would stop the fan and jolt it back on. Not permit fix
All I did to protect my Xbox 360 from the red rings of death was buying the replacement warranty from Best Buy for 50 bucks. I'll get a brand new one, it worked pretty well with TVs too…lol.
RRD made boys into men
If Microsoft would've stayed with Nvidia for their gpu chips the red rings of death would've never happened?
The Microsoft documentary on Xbox is actually pretty interesting
What do I do if I still have a red ring 360 to this day in box?
My friend definitely used the Towel trick
My go to was to put Q-tips through the back to stop the fans to overheat it!
Did the penny trick on 3 different 360s that i had gotten for free and "fixed" all of them
My penny trick has served my og 360 for over a decade now
I was in basic training at Fort Benning when COD 4 Modern Warfare came out. When I came home for holiday block leave my 360 had the red rings of death and had to send it to get fixed. Wasn’t a total loss. I just play Dawn of Sorrow on the DS for two and a half weeks.
I wrapped the towel around and put 2 cotton buds(Qtip) in the back to stop the fan turning so as to get it working again. It worked long enough for me to get my save data off and onto a new console
Ps4 and ps5, those things are plane turbines compared to the 360 fan
Cool chronometer
8:52 wow i just want this for the usb and component out
I did the Q-tip in the vents trick and the towel trick back in the day and even both at the same time. nothing fixed mine unfortunately
